Coaches

  Kostya KaribyanHead Coach.  Kostya Karibyan, is a former diving champion and holds a Physical Education degree. Kostya is a former coach of the Ukraine National Team and is a Level 3 Certified diving coach with over 30 years of diving and gymnastics coaching experience in Europe and Canada. After moving to Vancouver in 2003, Kostya started the North Shore Dolphins Dive Club and has been our Head Coach since 2004.  Kostya also coaches in many of the BC Diving camps held throughout the year.In addition to being the Head Coach of the North Shore Dolphins Dive Club, Kostya is also the Head Coach of Fraser Valley Diving.
  DanielleRecreational & Competitive Development Team Coach.  Danielle has been coaching with the Dolphins since 2012.  Danielle is a Master Diver and former high level competitive diver who recently competed at Provincial and National level meets.  She holds her Competition Introduction Certificate.  Dani coaches with extreme patience and enthusiasm.  Danielle also coaches for Fraser Valley Diving in Langley.
  SorayaRecreational & Competitive Development Team Coach. Soraya joined the Dive Club in 2004 and was the club’s senior diver until her retirement from competitive diving in 2008.  During that time, Soraya competed in numerous local and Provincial diving competitions.  Soraya is a Competition Introduction Certified Coach.  Soraya has been coaching with the Dolphins since 2008.  In addition to coaching the North Shore Dolphins, Soraya has also coached diving for the West Vancouver Community Centre, Hollyburn Country Club, UBC, North Van Cruisers and for BC Diving at the BC Diving Christmas Camp.  Soraya started working with the Dolphins’ junior competitive divers in 2010 taking them to meets where her divers had great podium success.  Soraya is also trained as a lifeguard, swim instructor, and in first aid.  Her gentle nature always brings huge smiles out of our divers.
KaraRecreational and Pre-Competitive Coach. Kara started diving in Ottawa at the age of 10, and competed at the provincial and national level in Ontario and BC as a junior diver.  Throughout university Kara dove periodically, mostly for fun and exercise.  She moved to Vancouver in 2010 to practice law, and began training steadily with Kostya as a Master diver.  Kara now competes at Masters events in Canada and the US, and she is working towards the FINA World Masters in Montreal in 2014.
AlexaRecreational Coach.  Alexa started diving with the North Shore Dolphins’ learn to dive program in 2007.  She moved up quickly to the competitive program and competed at numerous Provincials, the 2010 BC Summer Games (bronze medal) and the Canadian Junior Nationals.  Alexa retired in 2010 pursuing club volleyball, field hockey and horseback riding.  Alexa has her Instructor Beginner certification.  Alexa as been coaching diving with the North Van Cruisers Summer Swim Club since 2013.  Alexa is an honours student and has received awards for academic and  service achievements. Alexa enjoys coaching because she wants to pass on her love of sport, and she says it’s rewarding to watch kids improve over time.
  RachaelSummer Coach. Rachael joined the North Shore Dolphins competitive team in 2005 and participated in various meets and competitions including the BC Provincial Championships and the Victoria Sting.  She has numerous top 3 finishes and several first place awards. Rachael retired from diving in 2010.  Rachael is a Instructor Beginner certified coach having completed her certification courses in 2008.  She has put those skills to use coaching for our North Shore Dolphins, as well as the West Vancouver Community Centre, Hollyburn Country Club and the North Van Cruisers. She displays a keen sense of community spirit and volunteerism through her many extracurricular activities. Rachael is an academically gifted student who has won a number of prestigious academic and service awards.
  KellySubstitute Coach. Kelly joins us as a substitute coach when Kostya or one of our competitive coaches is not available.  Kelly was a former diver with the Edmonton Springboard and Platform Dive Club.  Kelly reached finals at two Junior Nationals Championships and was a member of the Alberta Diving team.  He coached the junior developmental program in Edmonton for seven years taking numerous divers to national level events before moving out West in 2010.
MaiaSummer Substitute Coach. Maia joined the North Shore Dolphins Dive Club team as one of Kostya’s competitive divers in 2005 and remained with the Club until 2009. During these years she competed in many Irene MacDonald and BC Provincial Championships and finished in the top three multiple times. In 2008, she qualified to represent her zone in the BC Summer Games.  Maia is a certified Instructor Beginner coach.  Maia enjoys passing on her love of sport to new divers.
